chamber music, cut to size. no click tracks, no fake strings.
Ghost Girl is the official archive of Minna Choi's compositions for Pop-Up Magazine. As the production's music director and lead composer, Minna composed original scores for hundreds of exceptional storytellers including: Samin Nosrat, Chanel Miller, Cord Jefferson, Jon Mooallem, Sophia Nahli-Allison, Chloé Cooper Jones, Ann Friedman, Ed Yong, David Guttenfelder, Matt Black, Daniel Alarcón, Nathaniel Rich, John Jeremiah Sullivan, Wendy MacNaughton, Sarah Kay, Tabitha Soren, and Alec Soth, among many others.
For 5 years Minna meticulously recorded her archive with musicians from the Magik*Magik Orchestra at top Bay Area studios. To highlight the human, emotive character of the stories, Minna conducts all songs off-click in the style of classical chamber music. The result is music that breathes like a person, not like a computer.
To save editing time, each song comes with an accompanying ProTools session containing many sizes of each piece, edited by musical phrase. These different lengths can be imported directly into your master protools session using the "import session data" command, saving tedious editing time. For those not on ProTools, custom a la carte editing is available.
The 60 pieces here are a very small fraction of the full archive, which will be released in thoughtfully curated batches every 6 months.
